Welcome to FAQs

We answer many of the common questions we hear from financial advisers. If you have a question which is not answered here, then please contact us directly. We’re happy to work with you to resolve any issues or questions you may have.

One of the benefits of an AIM IHT Portfolio is that the assets remain in the name of the client and can be withdrawn fully or in part at the client’s request. With gifting and with Trusts the client loses control of the assets and the ability to use the money should it be needed in the future.

We are available on most major platforms including,  Abrdn Elevate,  Abrdn Wrap, Nucleus, Transact, M&G Wealth and Fidelity. If you use a platform which is not on this list, please contact us

Business Relief applies to qualifying AIM shares held for two years and until death and gives 100% relief from inheritance tax. For more detailed information about Business Relief, please click here.

Yes. A Fundamental AIM portfolio is a selection of shares held and owned by the client which can be withdrawn in full or in part if the client requires the funds. As such, a court of protection order is not normally required under a lasting POA arrangement.

Direct

A portfolio can be opened by completing our application form and sending to the following address:

Fundamental Asset Management

Our application form can be found in our Literature Library and a link to this can be found here.

Via an adviser wrap platform

We also work closely with financial advisers who are qualified to discuss your financial planning requirements and will work directly with us on your behalf.

Fundamental AIM IHT portfolios are available via many adviser wrap platforms making it even easier to allocate funds to our portfolio.

Platform availability includes Abrdn Elevate,  Abrdn Wrap, Nucleus, Transact, M&G Wealth and Fidelity. If you use a platform which is not on this list, please contact us here.

For our AIM IHT service (AIM IHT Growth Portfolio and AIM IHT Income Portfolio), we have a minimum investment amount of £40,000 when coming direct, which can be split across two annual ISAs. Our minimum investment amount through a wrap platform is £20,000.

For our main market service (Fundamental Global Growth Portfolio and Fundamental UK Dividend Income Portfolio), our high-net-worth investors receive a tailor-made, bespoke investment portfolio with a minimum investment of £100,000. However, we recommend an investment of £250,000+ for a direct equity portfolio of this nature.

We do not apply a minimum top up amount.

We do not apply a minimum withdrawal.

We do not try to time the market. We will look to sell down holdings as soon as reasonably practicable following receipt of an instruction from the client. Our settlement period is T+2 (no later than 2 days after the trade date).

Once funds have cleared, we will endeavour to invest into portfolio companies as soon as reasonably practicable. This is true for business received directly or via platform. Where only model portfolios are available on the platform, investment is normally undertaken either the same day or next working day.

Our AIM IHT Growth Portfolio is structured to primarily generate capital growth while our newer AIM IHT Income Portfolio is structured to achieve a balance of income and capital growth. As such, the former does not pay out income, with any dividends received from portfolio companies re-invested into the portfolio and used to meet annual management fees. The AIM IHT Income Portfolio is structured to generate a higher level of dividend income which can be paid out periodically. In addition, regular withdrawals can be facilitated through your chosen platform.

Our application form can be found in our Literature Library and a link to this can be found here.

Once the portfolio is constructed, Fundamental
manages it on an ongoing basis, replacing
holdings as necessary if they are in danger
of losing their qualification for exemption from
IHT or if they are no longer considered to offer compelling long term investment potential.

Expected turnover levels are very low but
regular monitoring of holdings continues for the
life of the portfolio.

For accounts held direct, adviser initial or ongoing fees are agreed with you and your client and communicated to us through the application. This is then facilitated by Fundamental.

If you input your login details incorrectly 3 times or more, the account will be locked. Please contact us at enquiries@fundamentalasset.com.

We will arrange for the account to be unlocked and you will receive an email with a new temporary password.

Yes, we can accept in-specie transfers direct using our ISA Transfer Form located here or through your chosen platform.
